Witness a No-Show in Brooklyn Murder Trial

By Daniel Cassady

The murder trial of a Brooklyn man accused of fatally shooting an-up-and-coming boxer, was postponed Thursday due to a witness not appearing in court when scheduled.

The defense tried to create doubt in the minds of the jury as to the guilt of his client, Lawrence Harris, by implying that the arresting officer failed at the time of the shooting to interview all possible witnesses to the shooting, specifically a man and a woman who were allegedly with the witness who failed to appear in court.

Harris’ defense attorney said after the trial that while it might be common for a witness in a murder trial not to show up in court because the witness has gone into hiding out of fear for their safety, it could also be because they’ve gone into hiding out of fear of perjuring themselves in a courtroom.

The trial was scheduled to continue Friday.
