Jury Gets Case of Brooklyn Man Accused of Raping 13-Year-old Girl

A Brooklyn Supreme Court jury began deliberations Tuesday on charges against a registered sex offender accused of several counts of burglary, sexual abuse, and rape for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl.

Bennett Castello, 42, was charged in 2013 with rape, burglary and criminal possession of a weapon after the alleged rape on April 29.

According to authorities, after riding the elevator to the basement of her Brooklyn building, Castello threatened the 13-year-old victim with a pair of scissors and raped her in the laundry room.

Castello has a prior conviction of sodomy from 1988.

The jury was set to deliberate on two counts of predatory sexual assault, two counts of rape in the 1st degree, three counts of sexual abuse in the 1st degree, and two counts of burglary in the 1st degree.
