WABC Hosts ‘Back the Blue’

On Thursday, 77 WABC hosted a “Back the Blue” event honoring the New York City Police Department and all the hard work law enforcement does for the city.

The event included New Yorkers such as Red Apple owner John Catsimatidis, who is Vice Chairman of the Police Athletic League and Chairman of the Police Federal Law Enforcement, and others, notably NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea. (Brooklyn News Service notes that Catsimatidis owns WABC, having purchased it in 2019.)

In the 14-minute event, Catsimatidis invited Shea to speak.

Referring to New York Police Department officers, Shea said, “They are the finest human beings that New York City has to offer.” He maintained that 99.5 percent of New Yorkers support New York City’s police officers. “We do it for you,” he said.

“Let’s remember, it’s been a tough two years but we’re going to get out of this together and it’s going to be the New York’s finest leading the way as always.”

Commissioner Shea, Catsimatidis and Chief of Patrol Juanita Holmes then went on to tie a ceremonial first ribbon honoring the cops. WABC will be distributing blue ribbons throughout the city, in supermarkets and elsewhere, in
