Just last week a teen started firing on an adversary during an altercation they had gotten into outside of Midwood High School.
Days after the incident, it was discovered that police had found five more guns that had been brought into the school by students. There were no reports of injuries after the fight that took place last week Monday, Oct. 18, at 10:15 a.m. right outside of Midwood High School. A 16-year-old boy was taken into custody, and a loaded 9-mm Glock pistol was found on him. According to a source, the 16-year-old is a member of the G-Stone Crips.
This reporter got a chance to speak with Abdual Ashraf, who is in his first year at Midwood High School. He said, “This was a very scary moment for me. They had put the whole school on lockdown and were not even telling us what was going on. I never ever participated in an experience like this and since this incident has occurred, I don’t know if I feel safe coming to school.”
NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea said that the suspect who was taken into custody had two-gun related charges within the last eight months.
According to the New York Post, Midwood has been low in the number of its school safety agents, from about 14 in the recent year to eight, when the shooting transpired.
Monta David from the NYC Parents Union addressed the shooting. She said, “The safety of our children is paramount, and we need the mayor to hire more school safety agents.”
Midwood High School is a school that does not have metal detectors. Students who spoke with Brooklyn News Service said they hope this incident will pressure the school to have detectors.
