Staten Island Pol Says: Call Isis Acts ‘Genocide’

By INEZ SHARABY

Republican U. S. Representative Dan Donovan joined representatives of three of the world’s major religions on Thursday to urge Secretary of State John Kerry to declare ISIS’s actions as genocide.

“Today, entire cities tremble under the brutal decrees of a disgusting perverted ideology,” Donovan said. “ISIS forces Christians to live under its distorted brand of Islam or face a violent death. Last year the world watched the beach turn red as executioners sawed of the heads of twenty- one Coptic Christians on the shores of the Mediterranean. ISIS is a group of armed soldiers executing Christians, Yazidis and other religion minorities because they refuse to renounce their faith.”

Just last week terrorists stormed a retirement home in Yemen filled with nuns caring for the elderly and frail. The attackers handcuffed their victims before they raised their weapons and shot them in the head. ISIS kills Saudi men and boys by the thousands dumping their bodies in mass graves. They enslave women, capture them buy them, sell them and rape them over and over again.

“ISIS’s goal is to rid the region of religious minorities. It’s genocide, plain and simple,” said Donovan.

Last week the House Foreign Affairs Committee, on which Donovan serves, unanimously passed the resolution to define ISIS’ atrocities as genocide. According to a law that was passed in December, Secretary of State John Kerry has until March 17th to declare whether ISIS is committing genocide.

City Councilman Joe Borelli said that the challenge today is not to explain how ISIS’ actions are genocide; the challenge is for someone to come and explain how it is not genocide.

“How is it not when Christians are beheaded on the shores of the Mediterranean, how is it not when fellow Muslims are being tortured and beheaded by ISIS, how is it not when women are stoned and homosexual people are castrated, how is this not genocide?”

Declaring ISIS’ actions as genocide will help spread the message not only throughout America, but throughout the world. This is a recognition that they hope the rest of the world will follow. ISIS doesn’t look to convert. They look to kill.

“I am standing here before you today with colleagues and religious leaders to call for final passage of the resolution,” Donovan said, “and to ask Secretary Kerry to have the strength and conviction to label the horrific crimes in the Middle East as genocide. Let’s make our children and our grandchildren proud. Let’s not sit silently while killers with guns and swords rape, pillage and murder the defenseless in the name of religion.”
