Elizabeth Hurley never suffered from breast cancer but her grandmother died from it. Now, Hurley spends most of her time every October spreading the awareness of the disease to help defeat it.
On Thursday she appeared at the Empire State Building to help kickstart the Estee Lauder Company’s 2015 Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign by turning on the pink lights lat the top of the iconic 110-story building. Joining her was William P. Lauder, executive chairman of the company and the grandson of Estee Lauder.
Both Hurley and Lauder flipped the switch at the same time and posed for pictures with the switch and then later went to the observation deck to pose for more pictures.
“We now know that every two minutes in the United States a women is diagnosed with breast cancer,” said Hurly. “We think we’ve achieved a lot. The pink ribbon is a symbol that everybody recognizes but obiviously there’s still a great deal of work to be done.”
Hurley also sponsors the “Elizabeth Pink” lipstick all sales of which benefit the foundation.
Born in Basingstoke, Hampshire in the United kingdom on June 10, 1965, she is the middle child of Angela Mary and Roy Leonard Hurley. She has an older sister named Kate and a younger brother named Michael James Hurley.
She was introduced to the modeling world in 1995 when she 29 and became the spokesmodel for Estee Lauder. “I was far from an ingénue, having had my first modelling job at 29,” she sair for her Wikipedia bio. Since then, she has appeared on perfume ads for Lauder including “Pleasures,” “Beautiful,” “Dazzling,” “Tuscany per Donna,” and others. She also participated in campaigns for the company’s other cosmetics.
She is also known for her acting roles, including as Vanessa Kensington in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, winning her first and only acting award, the ShoWest Supporting Actress of the Year award.
Two years later, she played the same character in Austin Powers: The Spy who Shagged Me. She also known for her role as the Devil in Bedazzled, costarring with Brendan Fraser. She is currently acting in a T.V. show The Royals, playing Queen Helena.
