Colors — of ghosts, candies and masked humans — are all the rage in Queens.

So many events are happening before and during Halloween that it’s tough to keep track of them all. For instance, happening today, Oct 28, there is a haunted house located at Fort Totten, in Willets Point, Queens.

The event is called “Terror on Totten” and is sponsored by the New York City Parks Department. This event actually has been open to the public since the beginning of the month and is completely free, though you have to be 12 years old or older to enter.

The haunted house is open from 4 p.m. to 11p.m. It will include a haunted operating room of botched surgeries, a killer clown circus, roaming ghouls, goblins and more!

Another event taking place in Queens is the Halloween Harvest Festival.

This event is sponsored by the NYC Ferry Service and will be held at the Socrates Sculpture Park in Long Island City. The event will start at noon and run till 5 p.m., on Oct 30 — Halloween! It will include a doggie costume contest, pumpkin carving, a catapulting competition, artist-led workshops and more.

Although these events sound fun and exciting, the main event is the age-old one of trick or treating!

According to a New York City police officer in Queens who spoke with Brooklyn News Service, one way to keep everyone, especially children, safe on Halloween will be to travel in groups and always check the candy that is given to you. Never accept candy or any treats that have been opened already.

City police will be especially busy throughout the Halloween weekend, particularly on the big day itself, Oct. 30, when people are most likely to go out and party.

The NYPD website and a separate New York City website have a list of things to help ensure people have a safe and covid-free Halloween weekend.
