New Sentence Date Set for Scam Artist Victimizing Chinatown Residents

A new sentencing date was set on Tuesday for a Chinese-born man WHO has been convicted in an immigration scam that targeted the Chinese community and illegally collecting Medicaid and food stamps.

Judge Charles H. Solomon moved the sentencing to January 7 in Manhattan Supreme Court, as the defendant Dao Feng Lin attentively listened through an interpreter.

Lin defrauded numerous victims in Chinatown as well as other parts of Manhattan by falsely representing himself as someone with the ability to assist friends and family members of Chinese immigrants with applications for lawful status and work authorizations.

Lin charged a fee of $1,350 per applicant without submitting the applications to the U.S, Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Department of Labor.

Lin also falsely reported to have an income of $6,000 to $9,600 on his federal benefit application and recertification in order to qualify for Medicaid, air jordan 3 femmes food stamps, and a three-bedroom subsidized apartment in Manhattan. He appeared in court dressed causally in jeans and a blue jacket and wore a look of remorse on his face.

He collected more than $40,000 in Medicaid and food stamp benefits to which he was not entitled, said court documents. The prosecutor contended that Lin intended to make an additional $20,000 from the scam.

Lin pleaded guilty in New York Supreme Court in June to various fraud charges.
