Jury Picked in Brooklyn Child Murder Case

The final two jurors were selected on Tuesday to decide the case of a Brooklyn man accused of beating a toddler to death three years ago.

Kysheen Oliver, then 19, was left by his 32-year-old ex-girlfriend, Teyuanna Cummings, to baby-sit her 17-month-old foster child as she went to drop off her other children at school, according to the indictment.

The toddler was beaten up and had three broken ribs and a crushed spleen when he arrived at Brooklyn Univeersity Hosptial where he died.

“In March 2011 she [Cummings] had suicidal thoughts because her ex-boyfriend killed her 17- month-old-son,” a prosecutor said.

The prosecutor read reports alleging that Cummings was the victim of emotional abuse by Oliver when he killed her son; she also had post traumatic stress, anxiety, depression and blurred vision for two years.

Cummings was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder and other unspecified bipolar ailments in June 2014 by a psychiatrist affiliated with Lutherin hospital, according to the prosecution.

Last week 10 jurors were selected, and on Tuesday the final two were selected along with alternate jurors.  Juror number 12 stated that he was arrested in 1992 due to “receiving stolen property,” however this will not cause him to have any bias.

The trial was scheduled to begin on Wednesday.
