A 24-year -old homeless man, who allegedly broke a 96-year-old lady’s hip when he threw her to the floor, had his hearing postponed when he appeared in court Thursday, facing a charge of manslaughter.

Hansel Ramirez, wearing a grey jumpsuit, with tousled hair and head bowed, came out in handcuffs before the judge.

Before the fatal encounter, Ramirez was waiting for his friend Darryl Brown by the Inwood building, where Fliomena Vargas was trying to block him from entering. Vargas yelled at him to go wait for his friend across the street. Ramirez, who was insulted by this, shoved her to the floor and barged in.

When the old lady screamed for help, Ramirez ran away, according to the police who studied the building’s surveillance cameras.

Vargas died from her injuries a week later.

Ramirez attorney asked for a postponement, which the judge granted till May 5.

Ramirez got up without lifting his head and walked out of the room.
