In a surprise move in Brooklyn Supreme Court on Tuesday a 22-year-old Brooklyn man pleaded guilty in the murder of his 23-year-old neighbor after the two fought over a basketball game.

Nolan Wells, 22, was charged for shooting Jawaad Muhammad, 23, in the chest in front of 852 East 37th St.in July, 2012. Police said a crime stoppers tip led to the arrest of Wells.

Wells, at his appearance in court, arrived handcuffed and escorted by two guards.

“I intended to kill Jawaad Muhammad,” the defendant told the court. “I apologize to the family for my actions.”

The victim’s family members cried as they left the courtroom. The family of the defendant was also present. As Wells was being taken out the courtroom he looked back at this family and said, “I love you.”

Sources say that Wells, who had three prior arrests, was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Sentencing was scheduled for April 1.
