Accused Baby Killer Boycotts Court Again

A Bronx defendant charged with beating a 9-month-old boy to death in 2011 again boycotted a court appearance on Thursday after breaking the door of his cell at Riker’s Island jail.

Martin Quirindongo, who was described as “fragile” by an increasingly frustrated Justice Troy Webber, was said to have manipulated the door of his Rikers Island jail cell in order to not attend court. He instead has requested a plea bargain via video chat, according to his attorneys.

The defendant has refused to appear in any of his many court dates since 2011, claiming that he is “never going back to court,” according to Justice Webber.

Quirindongo is also charged with assaulting a corrections officer in Rikers Island causing the man to get over 20 staples in his head. The defendant attacked his attorney, Eliot Kaplan as well, prompting Justice Webber to relieve him of representation for the rest of the case and appoint another lawyer.

Now 21-years-old, Quirindongo was babysitting 9-month-old Ryan Ferrer in an apartment at the Marble Hill Houses when he silenced the crying baby forever with a physical assault causing him to die at a Bronx hospital from a brain hemorrhage with cuts and deep bruises to a few of his internal organs, according to the medical examiner.
