A 25-year old Queens man was sentenced to 23 ½ years in prison for first-degree manslaughter today, for shooting and killing a 39-year-old woman as well as injuring her then 18-year-old son, who was mistaken for his brother, in 2011.

Supreme Court Justice Gregory Lasak sentenced Malik Wallace, of Fresh Meadows, after Wallace pleaded guilty before him on September 11, 2015. The defendant was also sentenced to five years’ post-release supervision.

Wallace and 26-year-old co-defendant Lerome Robinson of Flushing, who was sentenced to 22 years in prison on September 30, shot Christina Coleman and her son Hassan Gil as they sat in a parked 2006 Volkswagen outside of 155-30 Jewel Avenue. The incident took place around 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2011.

“Today’s sentence is more than warranted,” said Queens DA Richard Brown.

Investigators said that the gunmen meant to shoot Gil’s brother, Marc Coleman, for partaking in an earlier shooting on Parsons Boulevard.

Coleman was rushed to New York Hospital Queens where she died from a bullet to her head and her son survived a wound to his chest.

Brown portrayed the case as an example of “senseless gun violence” in America.
