Earlier Thursday morning there was a court hearing in the case of Juan Jimenez, 86 years of age, who allegedly hit a 9-year-old boy with his car and then fled the scene without helping him.

According to several reports, Jimenez struck the young boy at Seventieth St. and Northern Blvd. in Jackson Heights, at about 1 p.m. on Aug. 28, 2018. Based on court documents, Jimenez testified to law enforcement officials that he did not realize he had hit someone and thus drove off, leaving the injured child on the pavement.

Jimenez is charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care.

Justice Gia Morris adjourned the court hearing to March 25 and declared that the bail of $20,000 remains in effect.

Jimenez did not comment and left the courthouse right after his hearing was over. He used a cane to support himself while walking and was accompanied by a close relative. She made sure her aged relative would not fall down and hurt himself.

It was unclear what sentencing the defendant is facing.
