Rap Artist Sentenced for Pimping

A former rapper, who described himself as a Jay-Z protégé was sentenced for promoting prostitution Thursday in Manhattan Supreme Court.

Malcolm Byer, of Crown Heights, who went under his performing name “Wais P” pleaded guilty for his part in a prostitution ring after an investigation by police that included wire taps and surveillance. Under a plea bargain, Byer got a sentence of two and a half to five years in jail.

This was not Byer’s first arrest for promoting prostitution, as he was busted back in 2015 for the same crime after he appeared in court for a case in 2014 for DWI.

Under the plea bargain he was credited with time served, insuring that he might be out in a year.

“I’m working on getting my life back together. When I come out, I will be a productive member of society,” Byer said in court.

When he does leave prison, Byer said that his main focus would be back on a music career.
