Charges Boosted for Accused Ashanti Stalker

The self-styled hip-hop CEO, model and car salesman, who once shared a cell with rapper Lil Wayne, has been charged with stalking R&B star Ashanti showed up in court on Tuesday to face elevated charges under a new indictment.

Devar Hurd, 31, who originally faced misdemeanor for criminal contempt, aggravated harassment and harassment, now faces felony for all three of those charges to go along with his original felony stalking charge.

According to Hurd, who is representing himself in Manhattan Supreme Court, the charges against him were “unlawful” because of lack of evidence. He continues to claim that the sexually-explicit text messages and tweets that he sent to the singer were consensual.

“I knew that there were multiple orders of protection barring me from communicating with Ashanti and her family, but that’s something the Court wanted, not the family,” said Hurd in an earlier court appearance..” The family doesn’t care.”

Judge Charles Solomon has suggested that Hurd hire a lawyer, but Hurd merely uses am “adviser,” attorney Michael Fineman.

“I’m not here to help you or them,” said Solomon. “I’m sure you’re going to want a Lawyer.”

The case was scheduled for March 10.
